Porphyry has been a symbol of royalty and prominence
throughout history for over fifty centuries, from the Egyptian and Roman
Emperor's of the past to the elite of today. It continues to be the most
popular paver in Europe. It is preferred among architects, town planners
and home owners for driveways, courtyards, walkways and facades, mainly
because of its beauty, flexibility in design, durability and low
maintenance requirements.
Porphyry is a volcanic rock formed from a slow cooling process of
igneous material. The word derives from the Greek porphyros, meaning the
color purple. The chemical and mineral composition of the stone along
with its distinctive structure as well as stratification, determine its
chemical characteristics; high compression breaking point, high
resistance to chemical agents, low ware-ability rate etc..., make it one
of the most durable paving and facing materials available in the world.
Our porphyry products are mined and manufactured by Odorizzi Porfidi
in both Italy and Argentina. For over forty five years they have
contributed and impacted the porphyry industry by creating a few
finishes and dimensions to the stone. Over the years they have acquired
a total of seven quarries and a wide range of color selections. A
commitment to excellence has allowed them to be the first porphyry
company in the industry to be in compliance with ISO 9002, to ensure a
high quality produce output. To further expansion in 1996 the Odorizzi
family partnered with experienced stone entrepreneurs Mr. Acs & Mr.
Szepesi to create Porphyry USA Inc. in order to better serve American
customers.
Porphyry continues to decorate and distinguish all types of
structures
from contemporary to old world design as well as the famous monuments
and plazas of the past. It is out mission as a team to create a trend in
paving with porphyry stone in the United States, and to forward the
tradition on using natural stones to enhance the beauty and durability
of the landscapes of buildings and homes in our country.
